OK, I'll admit, I've been neglecting my blog. Today, I return with another "Thank God It's Friday" post. I hope you like it!
The other night after getting the boys to bed, I plopped myself down on the couch and turned on the TV. It was one of those times where there wasn't anything particular I wanted to watch so I surfed a little bit and settled on a Happy Days rerun. Happy Days was one of my favorite shows when I was kid (it started when I was 8 and it's last episode had it's original airing when I was 19!). Like most boys in the 70s, I thought Fonzie was cool. At the time, I probably was a closer to being like Potsie and Ralph than was to being like the Fonz.
Anyway, the episode in question was one where Howard Cunningham was celebrating his 45th birthday and feared that he hadn't accomplished anything and thus he wanted to run away to Tahiti. It hit me like a ton of bricks, thanks to the timelessness of TV reruns, Howard Cunningham - the sometimes a bit grouchy or cranky dad on Happy Days - was now my peer. My next birthday will be my 45th. I am glad that I don't need counseling from the wise Arthur Fonzarelli to make me realize that my life has counted for something. I thank God for the many blessings He's given me and that every day of my life was written in His book before even one came to be. Like Mr. C, I've got a wife that I love, two wonderful kids, and have had the same job for a long time. You may not see me at a hardware convention and the coolest kid in town doesn't live upstairs, but I am glad for what I have. My peer Howard Cunnigham only reminded me of that fact. So I proudly say "Thank God for Mr. C!"
